Data Architect/Data Modeler

As CAAT has initiated an exciting new data transformation project, we are looking for a Data Architect to provide technical leadership. As part of this project, we will define and implement Data Governance, Metadata management, Data quality practices on different data repositories. This position will report to the Director, Information Technology. We are looking for a passionate individual who can help to uncover real potential of data within CAAT. Detailed responsibilities are described in section below.

We are looking for someone with the following attributes:

  • In-depth experience designing and implementing information solutions with solid architecture that enable well integrated transactional, collaborative and analytical systems
  • Solid understanding of common data architecture frameworks and experience with business intelligence and data warehousing development technologies, RDBMS and Analytics Environments.
  • Data/informational modeling expertise at the enterprise level. Working experience in data modeling for OLTP and analytical applications.
  • Knowledge and/or working experience with Data integration tools and Data Governance tools (including data quality)
  • Knowledge and/working experience with reporting tools like Tableau, PowerBI etc.
  • Able to communicate design and Ideas clearly both verbally and in written form.
  • Be an excellent team player, collaborate well with the teams and all other stakeholders

A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or equivalent, with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in IT with a minimum of 4+ years in Data Architecture design make you an ideal candidate.  Any certification in data management space like DAMA, TOGAF and being familiar with cloud technologies like AWS, Azure or GCP and Big data technologies is an asset.

  • Define and implement standards for enterprise data management structures and processes

Enterprise Application Architect

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Technical Architect, responsible for enterprise architecture, enterprise systems, service-oriented architectures, and interoperability. Solid experience in information technology primarily focused with enterprise interoperability. Demonstrated direct hands-on experience in architecting and growing flexible, scalable, and highly available systems. The Technical Architect shall provide expertise in design of services and systems in the support of CAAT’s systems eco system. This will include service specifications, interoperability specifications, integration specifications, and associated models. As an Enterprise Architect, you will support implementation and optimize of enterprise applications, focus on technologies and processes tying our corporate systems portfolio together and ensure data is shared effectively and efficiently across all our systems, both on premise and in the cloud.

We are looking for someone with the following attributes:

  • Working knowledge of Cloud (AWS, Azure or VMWare) and On Prem hosting environments and infrastructure (Servers, SAN, Networks, Cloud Platforms, etc.)
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to multitask and properly prioritize workload and projects
  • Experience working in a cross functional environment
  • Ability to explain and present technical concepts to non-technical customers
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Demonstrated experience building out application reference models, application portfolio management frameworks, target state and/or reference architectures, technology roadmaps and IT standards and polices
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of various Enterprise Architecture methodologies (e.g., Zachman, TOGAF, FEA) and ability to adapt and develop hybrid applications of methodologies to meet the organization’s needs
  • Well versed in agile development, DevOps methodologies, automation practices and microservices architecture
  • Extensive experience with at least two different computing platforms, operating systems, environments, database technologies, programming languages and communication protocols
  • Experience with middleware and gateways and in structured methodologies for the design, development and implementation of applications; knowledge of performance considerations in different environments
  • Experience leading technical projects, with design and deployment of significant application n-tiered architecture
  • Superior communication skills (verbal and written) to explain technical concepts to non-technical people including senior business and I&IT leadership
  • Strong written communication skills to prepare documentation, including but not limited to, reports, reviews, assessments and position papers; presentation skills to present information and findings, options and recommendations to senior Leaders and management ; ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively and in a user-friendly manner; maintain a high level of customer service to both internal and external clients

A University Degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent, along with 10 – 12 years’ of progressively senior experience in Information Technology with a solid background in technology and/or infrastructure architecture planning, design, development and implementation and a minimum 8 years of application architecture/solution design experience, ideally within the public sector environment make you an ideal candidate.  You must have solid experience in following technologies: Java on J2EE application servers (JBoss, WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat), Unix system (RHEL), Windows, Oracle and PL/SQL. Knowledge in ITIL and ITSM for Dev Ops would be considered as an asset.

  • Utilizes relevant application architecture roadmaps, reference architectures and application development related policies and standards to be used by solution designers
  • Defines the structure and relationship amongst applications, including the identification of re-usable components, the organization and layering of software, and the determination of interfaces
  • Utilizes and implements at least one cross-platform application architecture in a large and distributed environment

  • Analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on application architectures
  • Assesses the application portfolio and understands alignment of business services to application services to technical components (e.g. CMBD config items); makes recommendations to rationalize the portfolio considering cost effectiveness and risk mitigation objectives
  • Provides expert technical leadership in the development of organization-wide strategic directions for I&IT architecture, standards, principles, best practices
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to key business and technology partners as it pertains to the rationalization of the application portfolio and IT strategies
  • Delivers architectural alternatives, recommendation documents and architecture blueprint documents to senior management and stakeholders for approval
  • Provides advice to leadership and internal customers regarding application related technologies, risk assessments, and product selection recommendations
  • Educate IT Leadership, business users, technology peers, and application specialists on technology/infrastructure architecture and technology trends including conducting information and learning sessions to promote the enterprise Application Architecture Reference Model and related portfolio assessments

Web Master

Analyst, Finance

We have an exciting new opportunity for an Analyst, Finance to work within our Central Services team supporting the Finance Department. We are looking for a technical, self-motivated, and well-organized individual with experience in accounting.

Reporting to the Manager, Finance the incumbent will support the Finance Department in reporting, measuring, and monitoring the financial performance of the Plan.

We are looking for someone with the following attributes:

  • Good knowledge of pension plan or financial services experience
  • A proactive, self-motivated and collaborative team player
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy and strong follow-up skills.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable to a changing and fast-paced environment managing multiple competing deadlines
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communications (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

A College Diploma or University Degree along with one (2) or more years of experience in the accounting financial field makes you an ideal candidate. You must have completed or are working towards a CPA or equivalent designation. You must also be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and have advanced expertise in Excel. Experience with MS Dynamics, Concur, Power BI and Python is an asset.

Once here you will:

  • Review contribution remittances received from the custodian for both the CAAT and CAAT-RCA (Retirement Compensation Arrangement) Plans and reconcile total dollar payments to supporting documentation provided by the employers
  • Prepare monthly and annual contribution remittance summaries for the annual CAAT and RCA reconciliation process
  • Prepare detailed summaries for all miscellaneous service purchases
  • Record pension contribution remittances and service purchases in the Genesis pension system and Dynamics GP general ledger
  • Participate in the final preparation of the annual reconciliation process with employers and account for differences between what was remitted and what should have been remitted by the employers
  • Perform peer review of the accounts payable:  review for proper approvals, general ledger account coding allocation, coding of sales taxes and calculation of the self-assessed tax;
  • Perform peer review of Sponsors and Trustees expense reports for compliance to policy
  • Review the fixed asset ledger transactions and quarterly GL postings
  • Perform year-end close of the Fixed Assets sub-ledger, record asset disposals and prepare periodic reports for budget variance reports and year-end working papers
  • Prepare bank reconciliation and General Ledger journal entries for the RCA Plan as required
  • Assist in preparation of surveys and tax filings for the CAAT Pension Plan and RCA Plan
  • Assist with preparation of annual working papers and financial statements for the CAAT Pension Plan and RCA Plan
  • Provide supporting audit working papers and financial statement schedules for quarterly and annual financial statement presentations and audit
  • Prepare and review accounting schedules, prepare general ledger journal entries and reconciliation reports as requested
  • Assist the Manager, Finance with preparation and review of accounting schedules, general ledger journal entries, and reconciliation reports to support quarterly closing process and participate in special assignments when required
  • Provide analytical support to other team members in the Corporate Finance Department as necessary

Actuarial Analyst

We are looking for a proactive, professional Actuarial Analyst interested in joining a growing organization and expanding team in which you will contribute to a variety of new and exciting growth initiatives.  You will provide actuarial support to the Vice President of Service Delivery, Manager of Actuarial Solutions, members of the Actuarial Solutions team, and others.

CAAT’s core Actuarial Solutions team resides within the operational section of the organization, supporting the delivery of services to Plan members and employers.  This role is important because you will emphasize data analysis for special projects, and administrative support around past and future mergers with other plans.

We are looking for someone with the following attributes:

In your role, you will help develop and utilize new tools and processes that will be relied upon to ensure non-routine and high-risk benefits are properly calculated and valued. In addition, you will support the Plan in analysing trends and risks that may affect the Plan’s funding, demographics, and changes in actuarial calculations. You will be involved in a wide range of day-to-day tasks, internal and external projects, and special activities associated with the Plan’s growth initiative.

A University degree (e.g. majoring in actuarial science, statistics or mathematics) and/or College diploma and/or a combination of equivalent training, education and experience and working towards Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (ACIA) designation or demonstrated equivalent education/experience make you an ideal candidate.  Experience working on pension plans registered in various Canadian jurisdictions as well as, 2-3 or more years in the actuarial area of the pension industry is highly desirable.  You must also have a thorough understanding of pension calculations and strong Excel skills.  Experience with SQL and database queries would be an asset.  Experienced in the development of administrative business requirements and the essential tools required to be successful.

Once here you will:

  • Emphasize on calculation and administrative support around mergers with other Plans.
  • Be a key member of the actuarial team responsible for Administrative tool development, including both improvement of existing tools and development of new tools as required
  • Work with members of the Member Services, Quality Assurance, and Employer Services teams to resolve complex pension related issues and high-risk or complicated benefit calculations 
  • In conjunction with the actuarial team, prepare responses to questions submitted by Plan staff or stakeholders
  • Support actuarial filings and related funding analysis, complete peer reviews ensuring the accuracy of all filings and analysis
  • Analyse trends and risks that may impact Plan funding, demographics, and changes in actuarial calculations
  • Support strategic initiatives by providing actuarial analysis and implementation know-how including interpreting Plan provisions
  • Monitor and contribute to the preparation of quarterly statistical reports
  • Build and maintain detailed knowledge of Plan provisions and administrative practices
  • Develop and maintain deep knowledge of pension system functionality and other support tools, including data structures and effective use of the administration system/tools
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation with problem solving identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of the pension system to ensure compliance with Plan text and legislation, and recommend improvements to the administration system and other supporting tools
  • Participate in discussions with the actuarial team to define changes to the pension system and administration processes, and identify opportunities to streamline processes
  • Monitor pension industry practices while maintaining up to date knowledge on applicable pension legislation
  • Support team of demographic and other trending analysis, experience studies, valuations and projections, gain/loss analysis, sensitivity analysis, and plan design reviews.
  • Participate in team meetings to review changes and evaluate the impact to the Plan
  • Co-ordinate resources for internal meetings

Administrative Assistant - Pension Management

We are looking for a resourceful thinker and a quick learner to join our Pension Management team as an Administrative Assistant where the work will be dynamic and sometimes unpredictable. This role is important because you will be the day-to-day conduit between teams, providing administrative and support services to the Pension Management team.

Once here, you will:

  • Provide a full range of clerical and administrative support services to the Vice President, Pension Management and to the full Pension Management team which includes various types of correspondence, reports, and support for the actuarial and communication team 
  • Coordinate travel arrangements, course registrations and completing membership registration for the Pension Management team
  • Assist the Vice President Pension Management and the full Pension Management team in preparation for internal and external meetings including Board materials for Committee and Sponsors’ Committee meetings
  • Prepare invites and materials for Pension Management meetings
  • Maintain Pension Management contacts, correspondence through CRM
  • Operate as part of a Plan-wide administration team as the second Tier to the Office Services team providing backup to reception as required
  • Perform other related administration tasks as may be required from time to time

Administrative Assistant - Investments

Once here, you will:

  • With direction from team members, manage internal and external meeting requests, including:
    • scheduling meetings and calls with service providers and other industry contacts;
    • greeting and ushering meeting guests to meeting rooms in CAAT’s offices; and
    • making relevant material available for the meeting.
  • Provide support with calendar and inbox management, including filing and redirecting correspondence as required.
  • Download relevant investor material from data portals, circulate to team members and file as appropriate.
  • Prepare agendas and set up room bookings and telephone/video conference arrangements for Managing Fiduciaries, Investment Committee and other meetings.
  • Assist in assembly and formatting of regular and ad hoc meeting material and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain document filing systems, ensuring complete and accurate storage of documents.
  • With direction from team members, co-ordinate the preparation of legal document signature pages with appropriate investor information, obtain signatures from signatories and circulate electronic and hard copies to appropriate individuals.
  • Maintain contacts and correspondence through a client relationship management or other system.
  • Respond to routine inquiries from existing and prospective external service providers.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements, course registrations and completing membership registrations for team members. 
  • Act as a back-up for and collaborate on tasks with other Investments Administrative Assistant as required.

Acting as a front-line service provider you will be responsible for responding to member inquiries that can be diverse and complex in nature. As part of our Service Delivery team, you will provide accurate and timely information about the CAAT Plan benefits and provisions within established services standards, in order for members to make informed decisions.

We are looking for experienced individuals with a combination of the following attributes:

  • Basic knowledge of Canadian pension and tax legislation
  • Proven ability to grasp and apply plan provisions/legislation to client queries for resolution of issues
  • Strong decision making skills in order to handle a variety of questions from clients
  • Strong time management skills; ability to plan and prioritize workload

  • Sound judgement, collaborative team player who is detail oriented and logical

Your College Diploma or University Degree, with at least 3 to 5 years of experience in the customer service, pension, insurance, or finance industry, particularly in a call centre environment working with pension plans will make you a strong candidate.

  • You will acts as a front line service provider for member contact, responding to inquiries (via telephone, email, and in writing) that can be diverse and complex in nature
  • You will provide accurate and timely information about the CAAT Plan benefits and provisions within established service standards in order for members to make informed decisions
  • You will correspond directly with stakeholders (members, employer, third parties) via letter and email
  • You will participate in projects as assigned
  • You will function as an effective team player who participates in team meetings and events
  • You will perform updates and assist Processing Analysts with various tasks and projects

In this important role, you will help develop and utilize new tools to properly value benefits and measure risks in non-routine situations. You will support the Growth Team in analyzing trends and performing actuarial projections. You will be involved in a wide range of day-to-day tasks, internal projects, and special activities associated with the Plan's growth initiative. 

A Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics or Mathematics, and an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation (or working toward) along with three (3) or more years' of progressive professional experience in the actuarial area of the pension industry and a thorough understanding of pension calculations and process improvement make you an ideal candidate.  You must also have significant abilities with financial, analytical, and modelling skills.

  • Demonstrated experience executing test plans/cases, defect analysis, quality reviews, and data integrity
  • Strong knowledge of applicable legislation
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and a mathematical aptitude
  • A quick learner with experience in member transactions
  • Exceptional communication skills for a business environment (both written and oral)
  • Sound judgment, collaborative team player who is detail oriented and logical
  • Someone who thrives juggling multiple priorities
  • Advanced Excel skills

Your College diploma or University Degree, with at least 5 years of experience with multiple employer pension plans (MEPP), public sector pension administration, or an outsourcing service provider will make you a strong candidate. You may also have or be actively pursuing your Pension Plan Administration Certificate, Certified Employee Benefits Specialist Program, or Certified Benefits Professionals designation(s).

  • You will process and complete all transaction activities including terminations, retirements, deaths, transfers, service purchases (buybacks) and pension estimates
  • You will interact with employers and their members, former members, and retired members
  • You will participate in structured training sessions
  • You will conduct process reviews and support audit activities
  • You will support required system updates and identify opportunities to streamline processes
