Portfolio Manager, Public Markets

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Portfolio Manager, Public Markets to work within our Investment team. 

The Portfolio Manager, Public Markets plays a key role in the management of public markets investment program at CAAT, including investments in public equities, fixed income, hedge funds, and overlay mandates. The Portfolio Manager, Public Markets will also support and prepare the public markets investment program for expected growth in Plan assets. 

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in the search, selection, and monitoring of external investment managers in public markets
  • Strong understanding of diverse areas within capital markets
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and experience recommending investment ideas to senior management 

Your Undergraduate Degree in Finance or equivalent from an accredited institution paired with a professional designation such as an MBA, CFA, FSA, FCIA, or CA, along with a minimum of ten (10) years' experience in an investment setting at a pension fund or investment management firm help to make you an ideal candidate. You must have strong attention to detail. Working collaboratively in a small, informal team setting or independently with solid prioritization and organizational skills are important assets to have.

Once here:

  • You will research and recommend active management strategies with the goal of adding value above policy benchmarks
  • You will lead the search process for new external managers, across various asset classes within public markets
  • You will prepare hiring recommendation reports for new investment manager mandates, and present recommendations to the Director, Chief Investment Officer, and Investment Committee as appropriate
  • You will evaluate investment managers' performance relative to appropriate benchmarks and provide required information for quarterly reporting
  • You will build strong relationships with external partners
  • You will ensure agreements and mandates are consistent with CAAT investment policy and relevant tax and pension legislation
  • You will assist in the production of exposure, risk and performance reporting packages
  • You will oversee the process of rebalancing assets between managers
  • You will take appropriate steps to remain current on institutional investment trends, strategies, and best practices

Associate, Infrastructure and Real Estate (Real Assets)

We have an exciting new opportunity for an Associate, Real Assets to work within our Private Market Investment team. 

The Associate, Real Assets is responsible for assisting the Portfolio Manager, Real Assets in the identification, evaluation, selection, and monitoring of CAAT’s Real Assets investments. CAAT’s Private Markets team is focused on building diversified portfolios through fund commitments and co-investments. By combining best-in-class manager selection with the ability to strategically deploy capital into attractive opportunities, the private markets team seeks to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns over the long term.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Excellent financial analytical and modelling skills, and ability to perform cash flow, valuation, and capital structure analysis
  • Sound working knowledge of portfolio management, due diligence, capital markets, accounting and real asset investing
  • Strong knowledge of investment research and trends
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills

Your Undergraduate Degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of two (2) years experience in  infrastructure or real estate-focused investment banking, transaction advisory or direct investing, help to make you an ideal candidate.  Additionally, one (1) year of experience at an Associate level is preferred, as well as, an MBA, CFA, or CPA.  You must have strong attention to detail.  Working collaboratively in a small, informal team setting or independently with solid prioritization and organizational skills are important assets to have.

Once here:

  • You will support the screening, due diligence, monitoring and reporting of Real Assets fund commitments and co-investments
  • You will assist in the evaluation of prospective Real Assets investment opportunities, including; valuation, market trends, competition, and key investment risks and merits
  • You will maintain and update the pacing model
  • You will conduct research on Real Assets investment themes and perform special projects as needed
  • You will prepare materials for, and participate in, internal meetings and external due diligence
  • You will monitor current Real Assets investments and maintain a prioritized pipeline of fund and co-investment opportunities
  • You will review Real Assets-related quarterly Investment Committee meeting and senior management reporting materials and assist with accounting, finance, or administrative functions when needed
  • You will review regular reporting and participate in conference calls related to CAAT’s Real Assets fund investments and co-investments
  • You will actively contribute to Real Assets and investment team discussions
  • You will, with direction from senior staff, contribute to the standardization and documentation of CAAT’s private market investing practices and processes

Actuarial Analysts

We are looking for talented, experienced Actuarial Analysts to join our team. 

In this important role, you will help develop and utilize new tools to properly value benefits and measure risks in non-routine situations. You will support the Growth Team in analyzing trends and performing actuarial projections. You will be involved in a wide range of day-to-day tasks, internal projects, and special activities associated with the Plan's growth initiative. 

A Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics or Mathematics, and an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation (or working toward) along with three (3) or more years' of progressive professional experience in the actuarial area of the pension industry and a thorough understanding of pension calculations and process improvement make you an ideal candidate.  You must also have significant abilities with financial, analytical, and modelling skills. 

In addition, we are looking for someone with the following attributes:

  • Superior analytical thinking skills with the ability to evaluate complex situations and synthesize relevant information
  • Adaptable in changing work environments
  • Strong business acumen, sound judgment and a high level of integrity
  • Action-oriented with a high degree of initiative and the ability to shift and manage multiple priorities

We are looking for resourceful, strategic thinking Pension Analysts to join our Service Delivery department. 

 

Acting as a front-line pension administrator you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the CAAT Pension Plan. As part of our Service Delivery teams, you will process all types of transactions, calculations, and activities using the administration system, and will collaborate with internal teams and external plan members to ensure best in class service. 

We are looking for experienced individuals with a combination of the following attributes:

  • Understanding of complex pension administration systems and working with pension plan texts
  • Expertise in processing critical transactions and activities (e.g. terminations, retirements, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience executing test plans/cases, defect analysis, quality reviews, and data integrity
  • Strong knowledge of applicable legislation
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and a mathematical aptitude
  • A quick learner with experience in member transactions
  • Exceptional communication skills for a business environment (both written and oral)
  • Sound judgment, collaborative team player who is detail oriented and logical
  • Someone who thrives juggling multiple priorities
  • Advanced Excel skills

Your College diploma or University Degree, with at least 5 years of experience with multiple employer pension plans (MEPP), public sector pension administration, or an outsourcing service provider will make you a strong candidate. You may also have or be actively pursuing your Pension Plan Administration Certificate, Certified Employee Benefits Specialist Program, or Certified Benefits Professionals designation(s).

 

Once here:

  • You will process and complete all transaction activities including terminations, retirements, deaths, transfers, service purchases (buybacks) and pension estimates
  • You will interact with employers and their members, former members, and retired members
  • You will participate in structured training sessions
  • You will conduct process reviews and support audit activities
  • You will support required system updates and identify opportunities to streamline processes
