Greening the Plan
Greening the Plan
Throughout the College system, there’s a strong commitment to promoting the responsible use of resources. At the CAAT Pension Plan, we share that commitment. We began the shift to electronic communications with our HR and payroll partners at the Colleges years ago, and we’ve recently introduced expanded electronic communications to our members, by changing our Member Newsletters.
Starting with the March 2011 edition, Member Newsletters are delivered right to your email inbox, with the help of your employer’s HR department. By taking this simple step, we reduced our print volume for Member Newsletters by nearly 90%.
For members who do not have access to email, we still provide paper newsletters. The Newsletters we do print are printed in house, on recycled paper, which ensures no extra copies are produced and wasted.
Retired members receive their Newsletters on paper (recycled of course), mailed to their homes. The Plan is investigating the cost and benefits of developing a reliable, secure email contact base.
Paper communications
You’ll still receive some key items from us in paper – most notably your Member’s Annual Pension Statement, sent to you every year in June. This essential document shows the total pension you’ve earned to last December 31, as well as all the information we use to calculate your pension. The Annual Statement is a key retirement planning tool for members.
What’s next?
We’re constantly looking for ways to improve our processes while respecting the environment. Our green initiatives must always be balanced with requirements that we communicate with members fully and effectively. As we continue to roll out more paper-saving initiatives in the years to come, we welcome your feedback.
