Disability
When a member goes on LTD or WSIB total disability benefits, they stop contributing to the Plan, but maintain their membership and continue to accrue service. For WSIB partial disability benefits, the member accrues pensionable service only for the first year of collecting the benefit.
Disability leave is considered to end when the member returns to work, terminates employment (including as a result of a lump sum settlement from the insurance provider), retires, or dies.
Members on disability leave continue to receive Annual Pension Statements, and will also receive a T4A each year to use to complete the income tax return.
