Your early retirement pension will be unreduced if you meet one of the two following requirements:
- 85 Factor - your age plus Pensionable Service total at least 85.
- 60/20 Rule - you are age 60 or older and have at least 20 years of Pensionable Service.
If for example you are 57 years old with 24 years of Pensionable Service, your total is 81 (57 + 24 = 81) not enough for the 85 Factor.
If you retire this year, your pension will be reduced. If you wait for two years - when you are 59 with 26 years of Pensionable Service - your pension will be unreduced (59 + 26 = 85).
In this example, the 60/20 Rule is of no value to you. You already have 20 years of Pensionable Service, but will not be turning 60 for another 3 years. You will qualify for the 85 Factor before the 60/20 Rule.
If you are 57 years old and have 18 years of Pensionable Service, you have to wait 3 years to qualify for an unreduced pension under the 60/20 Rule. At that point, you would be 60 with 21 years of service. You would not qualify under the 85 Factor for 5 years, when you would have reached age 62 and would have 23 years of Pensionable Service (62 + 23 = 85).
