Employment while on pension
It's not uncommon for retired Members to return to work at a College on a full-time or part-time basis. If, after starting your retirement, you decide to return to OTRFT employment, you can choose to stop receiving your pension payments and restart your Plan membership. In this instance, you will not be subject to the 24 months waiting period and can rejoin the Plan right away.
On the other hand, if you decide instead to continue collecting your pension while receiving income from employment, you will not be able to resume contributing to the Plan. In either case, rejoining the Plan after returning to the workforce is optional if you are over 65 or if you're under 65 and returning as an OTRFT Member.
Note that once you turn 71, rejoining the Plan is no longer possible as you must begin collecting your pension at that time.
Once the time comes to retire again, you will receive a benefit based on all of the Pensionable Service you have earned over your entire College career. Your new pension will be adjusted to account for the pension payments you already received.
If you are returning to OTRFT College employment after a past termination, check with your Human Resources department to determine how your past service will affect your eligibility reqirements and pension entitlement in your new position.
