Work Stoppage

Definition / Procedure:

For Members involved in a work stoppage, strike payments received are not considered Pensionable Earnings. Members can choose to buy back the service and earnings when they return to work.

The OPSEU Academic work stoppage of March 2006 did not extend over the course of an entire month, so all Members received credit for Pensionable Service for the month of March, owing to the "one day rule". However, Members within 5 years of retirement may want to buy back the earnings lost during the work stoppage, in order to enhance their earnings calculation and their resulting pension benefit.

More details and the procedures to follow.
