Survivor Benefits upon the death of a Pensioner
The death of a loved one is one of the most difficult events many of us will experience. The CAAT Plan understands your need for information during this sensitive time, and this pamphlet is meant to answer some of the questions you may have about Survivor Benefits following the death of a CAAT Plan Pensioner.
Is this pamphlet for you?
You may be entitled to collect Survivor Benefits from the CAAT Plan if:
- you were married to or in a common-law relationship (for over 1 year) with a Pensioner who died while collecting a pension from the Plan,
- you are an "eligible" child - you are under the age of 18 and your parent was a Pensioner with no Spouse who died while collecting a pension or a Spousal pension from the Plan, or
- you are named as the Beneficiary of a Pensioner who was collecting a pension or a Spousal pension from the Plan.
The following explains the benefits that may be available to you and guides you through the process of collecting them. Your first step is to report the death of the Pensioner to the CAAT Pension Plan. If you have not already done so, please contact us.
